Hardric's Metal Optics Group provides HardZap™ beryllium mirrors, diamond-turned mirrors, custom mirrors and design services. The Metal Optics Group was founded in 1980 when Hardric was the first to
develop a reliable production method for polishing beryllium metal. These first
mirrors were used in night vision applications. Many were not coated and took
advantage of the natural 98% reflectance of beryllium at 10.6 microns. As the number of scanning applications grew, beryllium scanning mirrors became the norm for the fastest and most accurate systems in such applications as printing, engraving, welding, inspection, and for systems using highpower CO2 and YAG lasers. In 1992, in response to customer inquires, we added diamond turning capabilities. We test for flatness up to 6 in.in diameter. We test surface finish on a Zygo non-contact surface prolilometer.
