Metal Mirrors

Highly precise, plano metal optics are a specialty of Hardric.  Scanning, steering, and folding mirrors, to name just a few types, are routinely manufactured in Hardric’s Optical Production department for the Defense, Medical, and Space industries, as well as other industries.  Hardric has 10 Opticians, with up to 25 years of experience each, dedicated to the production of metal optics. Flatness requirements of mirrors can be made to lambda/20, with Surface Roughness of less than 20 Angstroms RMS on bare Beryllium, or less than 10 Angstroms RMS on Electroless Nickel-plated Beryllium.  Light-weighted mirrors can be made with floor thicknesses as thin as 0.020 inches (0.5 mm). Single Point Diamond machining capability is available for plano parts up to 20 inches in diameter, and AA Gage Indexers for Polygons with accuracy of 1 Arc second. Hardric’s optical testing equipment, to verify that your part is exactly as specified, includes a Zygo GPI Interferometer with a 6 inch aperture, a Zygo white-light, non-contact Profilometer for measuring Surface Roughness, as well as Optical Flats up to 15 inch diameter.

Coatings

Hardric has coatings available for your metal optics, from the UV to the mid-IR, that can be customized to your specific application’s wavelength and environmental requirements.  To verify the spectral performance, Hardric has a Perkin-Elmer Lambda 950 spectrophotometer and a Perkin-Elmer Spectrum 100 Optica FT-IR spectrometer in the Optics Lab.

Engineering

Our engineering staff would be happy to assist you in resolving any challenges you might have with your mirror design.  Our Optical Engineer has 30+ years of experience in mirror design, and our Manufacturing Engineers and Lead Optician each have more than 25 years of experience working with beryllium optics.  When Hardric manufactures your mirrors, you benefit from all this experience.  Our customers know that they can call on Hardric for help and advice whenever they must confront a challenging design issue.
